My Five Mintues with Half Minute Hero
by dtowngamer on Sep.26, 2009, under Demo Impressions
I will write this really fast since only the demo is out for the psp right now. I played a little bit of it, well maybe 5 minutes because it was really quick and I tried different ways of doing things.
First have you beaten a game in 30 seconds or less? Maybe if you have it has been doing a speed run. Well, this game is all about speed runs. You have 30 seconds to beat the level that you are on. I don’t know how many levels there will be, but for the demo you have two. You are in control of a hero that has to save the world because an evil mage casted a spell and you have to defeat him in that time or the world will be destroyed.
The game pays homage to those old 2d rpgs with the artwork that is in the game. It is also very humorous and clever with dialogue. There is everything that you would normally see in an rpg. There are towns, enemies (so that you can level up) and shops to buy armor. In the town the timer stops so that you can take your time to replenish your health and stamina, buy weapons, armor and talk to people. Battles are fast because you will need to be fast. There is only one attack and you keep on using it to strike down the enemy. You will have to be fast and just try to level up enough, buy what you need and go after the mage once you think you are strong enough.
This game looks to be very amusing and I look forward to adding it to my game collection. That is if the rest of the game is like the first two levels that I was able to play.
Punisher: No Mercy
by dtowngamer on Jul.04, 2009, under Game Impressions
The punisher is one of my favorate characters from a comic book. So, when I read that there was a Punisher psn game coming out I knew that I had to get it as soon as it came out, especially when it was going to be only $10. And let me tell you, the game is… well its a game. Nothing like what I pictured it to be. Nothing.
First, this game was made for online co-op. There is a single player story mode and it is only to unlock different characters, weapons and weapon upgrades so that you can use it in co-op. Single player is only 6 missions all which can be completed in about 2 hours. Only because some of them are timed. They even gave players a bit of story in the single player so that there is some connection between the different stages and boss at the end of some of the stages you have to fight.
The game is a FPS using the unreal engine. It is not that bad actually, it plays and feels like unreal. That is not really a bad thing because unreal was really great. When you think you are playing it. The whole time I was playing this game I was thinking to myself if they just changed the characters and the weapons it would be unreal 2004. There is no capture the flag mode, or destroy this or protect that. There is only kill 50 people or kill 150 in 20 minutes type of matches. That was alright I guess since the punisher whole mo is killing people who deserved it.
After I got over that I went over and played some of the multiplayer for a couple of matches. I learned that there is not alot of people who purchased this game. The few rounds that I played were basically empty for game that just came out on Thursday. I thought it should be way more populated then this. However, you can do story mode co-op. You will need a friend with the game because there is no co-op game finder for it. It is invite only, which kind of sadend me because I knew no one on my friends list had this game and since there is again no splitscreen I couldnt play with anyone at my house.
There are objects in the game and health packs because unreal… opps punisher will need it since you wll get shot from behind above and below. The obects help when your armor gets low or you need more ammo. There are no weapons on the battlefield. At the beginning of each match you can choose which weapons you carry. In the beginning of story mode you only have one and at the end you have all 3. Sound in the game is decent. The voice acting will get annoying becaue the characters talk to each other by taunting.
The level design is good for a deathmatch game. Like I said before there are objects such as health, armor an ammo. They are spread around the level against the edges. The multiplayer modes for deathmatches there are signs against the wall telling you which team you are on and going to. Spawn points for multiplayer are scattered around your area. For story mode you keep on respawning at the start of the level.
The game just really wasn’t what I thought it would be. Now that I know I don’t think I would have purchasd it because I have unreal 2004 and unreal 3. However, this game is just $10. It really is not that bad if you do not have unreal. It would be a whole alot better if more people purchased the game for co-op or multiplayer deathmatches.
